Taylor Swift, the pop superstar and Grammy winner, had a close call on Saturday morning when an alleged stalker was arrested for trying to break into her apartment in Tribeca, New York City. The man, who has not been identified by the police, was spotted lurking around the star’s building and attempting to open a door to her residence. He was quickly apprehended by the officers who responded to a call about a “disorderly person” on Franklin Street1.

This is not the first time that Swift has faced such an incident. The singer has been the target of several obsessive fans who have sent her death threats, broken into her homes and sent her “love” letters over the years. Some of them have even driven hundreds of miles to confront her or harm her2In 2018, for example, Eric Swarbrick drove from Austin, Texas, to Nashville, Tennessee, on three separate occasions to deliver more than 40 letters and death threats to Swift and her former label Big Machine Records3. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2020.

Swift has spoken openly about the dangers of being a celebrity and how she tries to live bravely despite the fear. In an essay for Elle in March 2019, she wrote: “You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things. Every day I try to remind myself of the good in the world, the love I’ve witnessed, and the faith I have in humanity. We have to live bravely in order to truly feel alive, and that means not being ruled by our greatest fears.”

Swift is currently working on new music in New York City as she prepares for her Eras Tour in February. She is also expected to attend a football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and her boyfriend Travis Kelce on Sunday at Highmark Stadium1. We hope that she stays safe and enjoys her time in the Big Apple.
