Fans of J. Cole have something to look forward to, as the rapper revealed he is close to finishing his seventh studio album. The announcement came during his surprise appearance at the first show of Drake’s It’s All a Blur – Big as the What? Tour, which kicked off on Friday (February 2) at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
J. Cole joined Drake on stage for a performance of their 2018 collaboration “In the Morning”, and then proceeded to share some exciting news with the crowd. “I’m in the final stages of completing this album,” he said, without giving any details on the title, release date, or features. “But tonight, I just want to rock with y’all, if that’s cool.”
The crowd erupted in cheers, as J. Cole launched into a medley of his hits, including “No Role Modelz”, “Middle Child”, and “A Lot”. Drake also praised his fellow MC, calling him “one of the greatest rappers to ever touch a microphone”.
The new album will be J. Cole’s first since 2018’s KOD, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim. Since then, he has also released two compilation albums with his Dreamville label, Revenge of the Dreamers III and Revenge of the Dreamers III: Director’s Cut, both of which featured contributions from Drake.
The It’s All a Blur – Big as the What? Tour is Drake’s first major tour since 2019’s Assassination Vacation Tour, which supported his fifth studio album Scorpion. The tour will visit 25 cities across North America, with special guests such as Future, Lil Baby, and Doja Cat. The next stop is Miami, Florida on February 5.
