Jennifer Lopez's highly anticipated Las Vegas residency at the MGM Grand is reportedly facing significant challenges due to disappointing ticket and album sales. According to a report from Page Six, the $90 million deal for Lopez to perform 90 shows next year may be at risk of being rescinded.
Sources reveal that the MGM Grand is concerned about Lopez's recent underwhelming performance on tour, with a source noting, "MGM is watching her not doing well on the road. They are very nervous. It’s pretty rare you have a poor tour and then go to Vegas."
In response to these concerns, insiders suggest that Lopez is being offered a reduced number of Vegas dates for less money. Representatives for both the MGM Grand and Lopez have not provided comments on the situation.
In an attempt to boost ticket sales, Lopez recently revamped her This Is Me…Now Tour into a "Greatest Hits" concert series, now titled This Is Me… Live | The Greatest Hits. However, the name change has not been officially addressed by Lopez's team. Last month, Variety reported that Lopez canceled seven tour dates in cities including Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston, leaving ticket-holders with a simple notice of cancellation and a promise of refunds.
Despite having 30 dates remaining on her tour schedule, ticket sales continue to lag. The rebranded tour has not yet demonstrated the necessary momentum to alleviate concerns about the viability of a Vegas residency
Lopez's ninth studio album, This Is Me…Now, released under a new deal with BMG, has also struggled to make a significant impact. The album is a follow-up to her 2002 hit This is Me…Then. However, HipHopDX's review was lukewarm, criticizing the album for lacking originality and relying too heavily on formulaic songwriting.
The combination of poor tour performance and tepid album reception places Lopez's Las Vegas plans in a precarious position. Fans and industry insiders alike are now left to wonder whether Lopez can turn things around and secure her place on the iconic Las Vegas Strip.
