Future confirmed the album’s existence on September 2, sharing teaser artwork for Mixtape Pluto on social media along with pre-order links on all major streaming platforms. He captioned the post with “bout to drop…” to build up the hype even more. The anticipation for Mixtape Pluto has been building since May, when producer Southside revealed in an interview with XXL that he had been working with Future on new music that would blow fans away.
“I’m working on Mixtape Pluto with Future right now,” Southside confirmed. “I’ve been working a lot with Roddy Ricch, too. It’s a new sound, like a whole new vibe. I’m ready to get these albums out… get this music out and start doing shows.” Future echoed these sentiments, tweeting, “I can’t sleep until it’s complete #MIXTAPEPLUTO.”
Future has been in a reflective mood lately, especially with the recent anniversary of his most celebrated album, Dirty Sprite 2. DS2 represents the pinnacle of the “Mixtape Pluto” concept, making it fitting that Future would want to revisit that era. This new album will also mark a departure from his collaborations with Metro Boomin that have dominated the first half of 2024.
