Houston, TX – Lil Troy, renowned for his 1998 hit “Wanna Be a Baller,” is reportedly in critical condition following a severe heart attack. The alarming news was first shared by fellow Houston rapper Willie D of the Geto Boys, who took to Instagram on September 1 to reveal the health crisis.

“EXCLUSIVE!!! Lil Troy Suffers Heart Attack… Fighting for His Life! [praying hands emojis],” Willie D posted, expressing concern for the rapper’s condition.

In a subsequent video on his YouTube channel, Willie D provided further details, stating that although Lil Troy is conscious and alert, he remains hospitalized and is not yet out of danger. “The good news is he’s still with us. The bad news is he’s not out of the woods,” Willie D shared, noting that he had spoken directly with Troy that morning.

Willie D also used the opportunity to highlight a broader issue within the hip-hop community, urging viewers to address the health challenges faced by many rappers, following recent losses including Fatman Scoop and BeatKing.

Lil Troy, born Troy Birklett, gained prominence in the late '90s with “Wanna Be a Baller,” a track that not only made waves on the Billboard Hot 100 but also contributed to his debut album, *Sittin’ Fat Down South*. Despite not performing on the song, the track’s success propelled the album to number 20 on the Billboard 200, selling nearly two million copies in the U.S.

he song's legacy, however, has been marred by a series of tragic events involving its contributors. Artists like Fat Pat, Big Hawk, Lil’ Will, and Big T, who were featured on the track, have all passed away under various circumstances. This has led Lil Troy to describe the track as "cursed," likening the series of events to the plot of the film *Final Destination*.

In 2021, Troy narrowly escaped death when his truck caught fire while driving. Reflecting on this and the subsequent deaths of his fellow collaborators, Troy had expressed a belief in the song’s ominous legacy.

As of now, Lil Troy has yet to publicly address his current health situation. Fans and fellow artists are holding their breath, hoping for his recovery and wishing him strength during this critical time.
