Drake has once again shown support for UK rapper Octavian, highlighting the burgeoning artist's latest track on his Instagram Story. The new song, released on May 24, features a beat that samples Drake and Giveon’s 2020 hit "Chicago Freestyle."
This isn’t the first time Drake has co-signed Octavian. Back in January 2018, Drake gave the London-based rapper a significant boost by rapping his song at a Golden Globes afterparty. Octavian recalled the event, saying, “I woke up one day and it was just like Drake singing the lyrics. Everything grew from there.”
Octavian acknowledged that while Drake’s endorsement was helpful, it wasn’t the sole reason for his rise in popularity. “All it did was help the fans that I already had confirm the fact they liked the song,” he told High Snobiety.
In response to Drake’s latest shout-out, Octavian reposted the Canadian rapper’s Instagram Story with a dagger and black heart emoji, showing his appreciation.
In other news, Drake has also collaborated with St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red on her new album "In Sexyy We Trust," released on the same day. The song “U My Everything” features a verse from Drake, produced by Tay Keith, which intriguingly includes a beat from Metro Boomin that was initially created to mock Drake amid rumors of him undergoing plastic surgery.
The track's lyrics reference the ongoing rumors and Metro Boomin’s “BBL Drizzy” beat, which had previously stirred the pot when the producer released it on SoundCloud as pa rt of their feud. Metro Boomin even held a contest for the best freestyle over the beat, offering a $10,000 cash prize.
Despite the playful jabs, Drake’s involvement with both Octavian and Sexyy Red demonstrates his continued influence and willingness to support and collaborate with rising talents in the industry.
