Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg has announced a new album with Tha Dogg Pound, revealing that the project was born out of a personal tragedy that led to a reconciliation with fellow group member Daz Dillinger. The news was shared during an appearance on the Home Grown Radio podcast hosted by DJ Hed and Chuck Dizzle.
The loss of Snoop Dogg’s brother, Bing Worthington, earlier this year was the catalyst for the reunion. “My little brother had passed away, and one thing about my little brother is he loved the fuck outta Daz. He loved us together,” Snoop recounted. This emotional event prompted Snoop and Daz to reconnect and begin working on what would become their upcoming full project.
Addressing rumors of a split within Tha Dogg Pound, a recent music video for their song “Smoke Up” featured prominent hip-hop figures expressing their dismay over the speculation. Snoop Dogg responded to the rumors directly in the video, dismissing them with a definitive “Fuck what you heard.”
Daz Dillinger took to Instagram to confirm that “Smoke Up” is not just a standalone track but part of a larger album titled “W.A.W.G” (We All We Got), set to drop in June on Death Row Records, now under Snoop Dogg’s executive production.
The announcement comes after Snoop Dogg’s acquisition of Death Row Records last year and the subsequent return of the label’s iconic catalog to streaming services. The catalog includes seminal '90s rap albums such as Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic,” Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle” and “Tha Doggfather,” 2Pac’s “All Eyez On Me” and “The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory,” and Tha Dogg Pound’s “Dogg Food.”
Fans of the genre can look forward to diving back into the soundtracks for “Above the Rim,” “Murder Was the Case,” and “Gridlock’d,” as well as compilations like “Death Row Greatest Hits” and “Christmas on Death Row.”
