YG Calls Out Drake for Reference in New Single "Weird"

 - Compton rapper YG has seemingly responded to being name-dropped in Drake's diss track "Family Matters" with a new single titled "Weird." The track appears to address Drake's mention of YG during the rapper's ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar. On "Family Matters," Drake used YG's name to discredit Lamar, suggesting that YG was affiliated with a gang while Lamar was not.

In "Weird," YG raps, "When it's smoke, don't ever mention my name (mention my name). You gon' have me jeopardizin' my fame, jeopardizin' the gang, jeopardizin' where you hang, n**ga." Though YG doesn't explicitly name anyone, the context suggests he is reacting to Drake's mention of him in the feud. This indirect response highlights YG's displeasure at being dragged into a conflict that he had no part in, particularly involving another West Coast artist.

Despite this tension, YG and Drake have a history of collaboration. Drake was featured on YG's 2014 single "Who Do You Love?" from the album *My Krazy Life*, which peaked at 54 on the Billboard Hot 100. The duo also collaborated on the 2016 track "Why You Always Hatin?" which peaked at number 62. YG supported Drake as the opening act for the 2016 Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour, showcasing a previously friendly relationship.

However, YG's bond with Kendrick Lamar runs deeper, rooted in their shared Compton origins and mutual respect for each other's work. In a decade-old MTV interview, YG praised Lamar, stating, "I knew Kendrick before I blew up, he knew me before he blew up... it's all love and respect." Additionally, DJ Mustard, YG's longtime collaborator, produced Lamar's Drake diss track "Not Like Us," reinforcing YG's alignment with the West Coast in this feud.
