But that’s not all—the new edition of the album includes two fresh singles. The first, titled “Like My Sh*t,” showcases Eminem’s signature lyrical prowess. The second single, “Kyrie & Luka,” features a collaboration with 2 Chainz. Notably, this marks their first joint effort since the “Chloraseptic” remix in 2018, which received acclaim despite Revival’s mixed reception.
Longtime Eminem fans will recognize Steve Berman’s name. As the Vice Chairman of Interscope Records, Berman has appeared in skits on previous Eminem albums, including The Marshall Mathers LP and Relapse. These skits often depict humorous arguments between the two, with one memorable moment ending in Em “shooting” Berman in the arm on The Eminem Show.
While many fans appreciate the conclusion of the Slim Shady character’s arc, some have been more reserved in their praise. Critics note outdated themes and moments that feel cringeworthy, such as references to Gen Z attempting to “cancel” Eminem. Pitchfork awarded The Death of Slim Shady a score of 4.8/10, while Anthony Fantano of YouTube channel TheNeedleDrop gave it a 5/10. The album’s Metacritic score stands at 49/100, indicating “mixed or average” reviews—a surprising result given Eminem’s previous releases like Encore and Revival.
Despite critical reception, commercial success seems inevitable. Barring unforeseen circumstances, The Death of Slim Shady will become Eminem’s twelfth consecutive album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, a testament to his enduring popularity and devoted fanbase.
